Sids have it rough at Roffey - and crash out of cup

Sidlesham travelled to Roffey for a Sussex Intermediate Cup tie without six regular players and tasted defeat for the first time this season, losing 4-2 a match that should have been all over by half-time.

The Sids had a early scare when a Roffey player found himself with only the keeper to beat but saw his shot superbly saved.

This shook the Sids and they began creating chances - but after some good saves by the home keeper and many opportunities being missed, it took a handball by a Roffey defender to allow Paul Barnes to score from the spot on 40 minutes.

This was as good as it got and the second half saw Roffey coming into the game more. On 60 minutes they equalised and with the Sids wasting chances, the match went into extra-time.

Within a minute Roffey took the lead and the Sids looked a bit jaded but on 100 minutes Barnes levelled the scores.

The joy was shortlived when the Sids conceded a penalty two minutes later which was converted.

Three minutes into the second period of extra-time, Roffey scored a fourth. The Sids wasted yet more chances and crashed out of the cup.
