Steyning Town FC and Steyning Strikers announce merger

Steyning Town Football Club - which runs six sides for 18-year-olds through to adults - and Steyning Strikers - which runs 11 teams from age six through to 16 - had the merger formally agreed by club members at their respective recent AGMs.

The new club, which will be called Steyning Town Community Football Club, will now offer football for over 300 local footballers and will give a clearer pathway for footballers from youth right through to adult football. Included in this will be a girls team run for the very first time in the club’s history.

Mike Davies, chairman of Steyning Strikers said: “This is fantastic news for anybody who is keen on football in this town. For too long we have had talented young footballers drift away from Steyning to other local teams or drop out of playing football altogether.

“This gives us a great platform to improve the way we coach, train and educate young players, as well as improving the football facilities in this town. “

As part of the new club there are plans in place to launch a new kit, re-design the club logo via a local competition and to invest further in the clubs facilities at its Shooting Field home.

Carol Swain from Steyning Town added: “This day has been a long time coming. I have spoken to some people who tried to make this happen nearly 20 years ago. I am delighted for everybody on both sides who have worked hard to make this happen.”
