Storey – We have platform to build on with huge win

Anthony Storey says his side have given themselves a platform to build on in their battle to beat the drop.

But the Horsham joint manager knows there is little time to celebrate their victory over Hastings on Saturday.

The Hornets have six games left and host play-off chasing Whyteleafe on Saturday and Storey insists they again must win.

He said: “It was a huge win and it obviously gives a platform for us to move forwards.

“We have got to go again on Saturday and we need to win again to put us right back in the mix. We changed the shape as we wanted to give Trevor (McCreadie) a bit more support up front, so with Balio Camara we went with two-up there, which worked well.

“Tom Bold came in and played in the centre of the park and had an outstanding debut. It worked really well and we could have been three, four or five up by before the break.

“We are starting to gel and when you look at past performances like Guernsey, games we have lost by an odd goal, we are now taking more from the game. Hopefully, we can push on from here.”

Those odd goals have been a pattern this season and Storey admitted there was a sense of relief when the second goal went in.

He added: “This is how our season has gone since me and Cliff (Cant) have been in charge - we keep making silly mistakes. We didn’t on Saturday. When you are at 1-0, you are worried you are going to make a mistake, but we were so solid – the back-four were excellent and Gareth (Williams) didn’t have much to do.”

Storey hopes to sign another centre-half ahead of Saturday’s clash and added: “We have got to go into Saturday with positive thoughts and a bit more confidence and belief.”
