Storrington denied by late Wick penalty

Ali Giammattei’s first half goal looked to have settled a tight game in the visitors’ favour but a minute from time Michael Frangou made it 1-1 from 12 yards.

After a slow start a slightly changed Swans starting XI began to cause their hosts some problems with Will Conway and Giammattei pulling the strings from the centre of midfield.

And they went ahead after 22 minutes when a Conway corner wasn’t dealt with by the Wick keeper and fell to Giammattei, who fired through a crowded box.

Marcus Robertshaw, Iain Jarvie and Liam Humphreys all went close before Wick came back into the match before half time, hitting the crossbar and forcing Jason Downer into a good save.

Despite being below their best Swans should have extended their lead when chances went begging for Robertshaw, Humphreys and then Jarvie.

Openings continued to present themselves for the visitors before the final minutes became somewhat unsavoury.

And a minute before the end of the 90 the referee awarded the hosts a penalty when a shot struck James Davis on the arm from three yards and Frangou earned Wick a share of the points.

Swans manager Nigel Dyer said: “Overall a game we should of won and disappointed not to do so, but that is because we have set a higher standard in the second half of the season.

“But it is still an away draw against a team needing the points to stay clear of relegation places.

“Some good performances in the game, with Ollie Setchell deserving of the man of the match award.”

Swans don’t have a game this Saturday, and with two matches left Dyer has targeted maximum points to end the season on a high.
