Students start uni football season with a bang

The University of Chichester's football first XI's return to the Premier League kicked off in emphatic style as they triumphed 4-0 against a strong Glamorgan side in a feisty game.

They played a quick passing game, with Ben Chick and Tom Smith providing excellent width and Jack Blatchford and Kenneth Hagan dominating the centre of midfield.

Excellent wide play from Chick allowed Smith to win a penalty through an opposition handball. Kenneth Hagan stepped up to slam the ball home.

The back four were solid, including Matt Evans, superb in goal throughout. And with Scott Dormer leading the line well with Pau Busquets playing in the hole, linking well, it was no surprise Chichester grabbed a crucial second before half-time.

Chick beat two players on the right, knocked it past the centre-half, ran round him and slotted it past the keeper.

In the second half Glamorgan piled forward, with Evans making two superb saves and captain Peter Hibbert making an excellent clearance.

Man of the match Hagan was everywhere as Chichester looked to punish a frustrated and lacklustre Glamorgan, who finished second last year.

Blatchford played a delicious through-ball to send Chick one on one with the keeper and he was brought down with the Glamorgan keeper given a second booking.

After a lengthy delay Hagan hammered home the resulting penalty to send Chichester into raptures.

Sub Harry Dye’s range of passing was spot-on and he sent Chick free to cross for Blatchford to score his first for Chichester and complete an emphatic victory.

As the final whistle came, Chichester celebrated a brilliant start to an exciting season.
