'The best team always wins it' - Congratulations flood in after Worthing clinch National South title and promotion

A remarkable 4,002 packed into Woodside Road to see them win the prize they have been close to for several seasons – the rise to the top table of English non-league football.

They won the title by three points as goals by Joe Cook and Razz Coleman De-Graft saw off Ebbsfleet – for whom defeat meant they dropped out of the play-off places, when they’d started the day able to finish as high as second place.

Worthing were flooded by messages of congratluation as soon as the full-time whistle went.

In an amazing show of sportsmanship, one of the first messages came in from Hornchurch, who they had just pipped to the title. Hornchurch said on X: “Huge congratulations guys. All the very best.”

Here’s a selection of other messages from X and Facebook.
