Golds clinched the Sussex County League crown last season and will begin their defence at Eastbourne United on August 8.

Gaskin’s side took on a talented Petersfield Town team and fell to a 4-2 defeat earlier this month but Golds’ boss felt the test was helpful for his team and will stand them in good stead for the season.

He said: “That game was a good challenge for us.

“They won the Wessex Premier last season and will do well in the league above.

“We are just getting the squad back together now after injuries and holidays.

“It’s an exciting time and the final few friendlies will give us a chance to see where we are.”

Golds have continued to stregthen their side in the past week with Adam Goff and Alex Staines signing and Dave Herbert has agreed to return.

Gaskin is delighted to have Goff and Staines back at the club and said: “Both Adam and Alex used to play for us but have not played in the past couple of years.

“They are both very talented and will add some depth to what is a strong squad.

“It’s great that Dave has decided to come back again this season, too.”
