After 45 minutes’ play and with the score at 0-0 official Guy Poynter decxided the was too much water on the pitch.

Faili said: “The referees have all sorts of health and safety considerations nowadays and it would have been in trouble if there had been a nasty injury caused by slipping.

“Calling the game off seemed ridiculous at the time but 15 minutes afterwards it poured with rain and it would have been harder to have called it off later on if one side had scored.

“It’s not for me to criticise referees. He made the decision in good faith and I have no issues with it at all.”

Former Bridges keeper Alan Mansfield was only marginally concerned with a long range dipper from Sampson Djimah, while Martin Grant was happy to hold on to Curtis Gayler’s volley at the second attempt.

Despite again having some key players unavailable, Bridges played well against a strong looking visiting side with young Charlie Leach looking particularly solid in an unaccustomed role at centre back.
