But for Phoenix keeper Steven Phillips, the final tally could have been far greater.

An inviting cross by Alex Barbary led to the opening goal, the outstanding Lee Hall bundling the ball home.

Andy Sesay headed over from Troy Williams’ cross and Barbary saw his shot blocked after MoM Tom Tolfrey set him up.

Bridges doubled their tally after 38 minutes when Hall played in Tolfrey, who showed superb composure to net.

Another Williams cross five minutes after the restart was tucked in by Sesay.

A corner from O’Neill was slammed home by Tolfrey after 68 minutes.

Another good save fell nicely for Barbary to volley home after 74 minutes, and in the 83rd minute a sublime free kick by substitute John Lansdale completed a memorable day for Jamie Crellin and the team.

Phoenix’s miserable day was completed by the double sending off of Zak Byron and skipper Daniel Young.

On Saturday Bridges travel to Needham Market of the Southern League premier central division in the third qualifying round of the FATrophy. And next Tuesday they are at home to Worthing in the second round of the Sussex Senior Cup.

The latter game was scheduled to be at Worthing’s ground but the pitch at Woodside Road is undergoing more work.

* Bridges’ under 13 girls lost by a single goal away to league leaders Henfield. Samantha Marshall starred.
