The management pair of Stuart and Barry Pidgeon are heading into their first full season in charge after taking over from Simon Butler early last season.

Stuart admits consistency was hard to come by at times in his and Pidgeon’s maiden year but believes his side are better equipped this season.

He said: “I think we’ll look at a top-eight finish and a decent cup run.

“We’ve brought some really good young talent through in the past few seasons and we want to keep that trend going as well.”

Most of last year’s squad have remained with just Niall O’Hagan (Shoreham) and Max Thoms (Chichester) departing.

Stuart believes Thoms will be a miss but the emergence of Dion Jarvis leaves his side in good shape.

He added: “Max will be a big loss but he had his reasons for leaving.

“I think a major plus point for us towards the back end of last year was how Dion came on.

“He’s carried that form on through pre-season and has looked really good.”

Mullets kick-off the new season with a home FA Cup extra-preliminary round tie with league rivals Chichester City.

Stuart believes that will be a really tough test for his side but hopes they’ll be able to progress in this year’s competition. He added: “It’s a tough way to start the season but we’ve trained hard over pre-season and will be ready for this test.”

In: Craig Rennie (East Preston), Steve Herbert (Worthing under-21s).

Out: Niall O’Hagan (Shoreham), Max Thoms (Chichester City).
