But the right-back admitted he’s no closer to knowing if he’ll be handed a deal at Fratton Park next season.

Sessegnon got his latest appearance under his belt in Saturday’s 2-1 loss at Sutton United.

That means the 22-year-old has now played in all four of the club’s pre-season games to date.

Sessegnon was plying his trade at National League South level for Whitehawk last season.

Now he fighting for his chance to earn a full-time career in the game.

Sessegnon said: ‘I’m trying to win a contract and I’m working hard towards trying to do that.

‘It’s really good to be here, working full-time and learning from a manager of the calibre of Paul Cook.

‘I’ve no clue how things stand at the moment. It’s with my agent.

‘He’ll let me know as soon as things are clear.

‘I was over the moon to be given the chance.

‘The style of play suits me and my game.

‘I’ve heard a lot of good things about the club and the manager so it was a no-brainer to come down.

‘It’s good I’ve been here a while but, in football, one minute you’re up and the next you’re down.

‘You never know what could happen but I’m really hoping to get something out of it.

‘It would definitely be a dream come true for it to happen and play here.’

Cook still needs cover in the right-back area and Sessegnon’s arrival would see him come as back-up to Drew Talbot.

The Pompey boss has been educating the London-born man on what he demands from the position.

But Sessegnon still doesn’t know if he will be a Blues player come August 6 against Carlisle.

He said: ‘I’m an attacking full-back who likes to bomb on. That’s my game really.

‘That’s what the club is looking for and that’s what I do.

‘It’s a big step and I know I’d be coming in as a number two.

‘The manager has been slowly teaching me about how they want me to play.

‘I’m learning about it and where they want me on the field.

‘Hopefully that won’t be for nothing!

‘He’s given me a good enough chance.

‘I got injured in the first game in Ireland and he’s told me to come back for another week after that.

‘I picked up a thigh injury and that slowed me down a bit.

‘The manager’s been good and given me some more time.

‘The tempo of football is a lot different and a lot quicker but I feel I’ve kept up with everyone.

‘The fitness levels are a lot higher but I feel I’ve been up there.

‘I just have to wait and see what the manager says really.’
