Trio of former Crawley Town promotion heroes released by respective clubs
Three Wembley heroes for Crawley Town who have since moved on have now been released by their current clubs.
Laurence Maguire, Will Wright and Adam Campbell have all been released following the conclusion of the 2025/26 season.
All three of them were involved in Crawley’s tremendous playoff winning campaign, which saw the Reds promoted to League One with today marking two years to that very day that the West Sussex side lifted that trophy at Wembley crowning them champions of the playoffs.
Each of those players moved on in the summer following Crawley’s promotion as Maguire returned back to his parent club Chesterfield before securing a move to MK Dons, Wright departed for Swindon Town on a free transfer, and Campbell moved back up north to play for National League Side Hartlepool United.

Maguire, the brother of Manchester United star and England international Harry Maguire, had a very successful loan spell at Crawley making 37 league outings and scoring three goals. He provided strength and solidity to Crawley’s defensive line during the promotion season, and was also a major threat from set pieces, which was pivotal in the Reds successes that season before MK Dons secured his signature in the summer of 2024.
Following his move to Stadium MK he featured on 30 occasions starting 29 of them but Milton Keynes themselves had an underwhelming season. This past season however, Maguire had a tough time sidelined by injuries only making ten appearances in the league as he watched his side get promoted after finishing second in the league, and now the 29 year old looks to begin a new chapter.
During that historic season for the Reds, Wright played the most amount of minutes of any outfield player that season, clocking up a total of 4,030 minutes across 45 League Two appearances, while also bagging four goals and nine assists. He made that superb block of the line early into the first leg of the playoff semi-final against MK Dons en route to the final.
Since moving to the Robins, he has been a regular in the Swindon side, making just shy of 100 appearances across the course of two seasons but following the expiry of his contract he has been released by the Wiltshire outfit after Swindon narrowly missed out on playoffs.
Like with both Maguire and Wright, Campbell was another prominent figure in Scott Lindsey’s promotion winning side. The Geordie accumulated a total of 45 appearances in the league with 12 goal involvements to go alongside it.
His move to the Pools was as a result of the want to be closer to home and so Hartlepool was exactly the right fit for the 31 year old. Campbell has chipped in with goals and assists here and there since joining the seaside town and has always featured for the majority of these last two campaigns but now his time there has come to an end.
So the real question is whether you Crawley fans would have any of these players back at the Broadfield Stadium or not? After Wembley heroes Ronan Darcy and Klaidi Lolos’ loan spells in the second half of the season did not work out as was hoped, there may be some scepticism surrounding former players returning to the club but could you see any of them returning to Crawley?
