The hosts were not at their best for long periods of the contest and, in the end, the West Sussex League side left with a deserved victory.

Clymping fell behind early on through a free header from a set-piece, but they equalised on 21 minutes when Ben Bishop hooked a clever volley over the keeper from a Harry Thompson cross.

Predators, however, went in front again shortly afterwards as Rob Barnard failed to head clear and he was punished, which gave the visitors a one-goal advantage at half-time.

The home side came out with renewed vigour in the second half as they looked to find a way to restore parity.

Once more, however, Predators had other ideas and they doubled their lead midway through the second-half, which all but ended Clymping’s chances of progressing.

Clymping keeper Billy Nash then made a spectacular treble save to keep his side in with a chance of turning the match around, and they did pull one back late on as Jordan Farrell finished well from just inside the penalty box.

However, it was to prove too little, too late for the home side as Predators held on for the win.

Clymping manager Mike Williamson said: “I think some of the players went out there with the wrong attitude and we started to play the game at their level.

“To be fair to Predators, they played well and all credit to them. They deserved it.

“We just weren’t at the races and it is a game we didn’t want to lose.”

CLYMPING: Nash; Dehnehy, Barnard, Reeves, Thompson; Peacock, Richard Brown, Rob Brown, Hodder; Charman, Bishop. Subs: Farrell (Richard Brown 80), James, Henton.
