Lancers looked set to have clinched a vital three points through Alex Spinks’ 20-yard second-half strike after a dominant display, until the game turned on a penalty decision in the 70th minute.

The visiting management were furious that goalkeeper Darren Ford was first adjudged to have fouled an opponent outside the area, even before the linesman overruled the referee and gave a penalty rather than a free kick.

Phil Gault netted the resulting spot kick and to make matters worse, Kieran O`Callaghan hit a winner for the hosts five minutes from time with Lancers claiming a foul in the build-up.

Gurney said: “It was daylight robbery. It was just really, really hard to take. Basically, we had completely dominated the game almost from start to finish.

“I do not like talking about referees as it sounds like sour grapes, but unfortunately it all hinged on two decisions.”
