VIDEO: Result that counts for Heath

It was hardly vintage after an enforced break but it was the result that counted for Blues as they stayed right in the promotion mix.

“I let the lads know I wasn’t delighted with our performance but they came back well after conceding,” said manager Simon Corless.

“It was OK after a long break and although we let in a few goals, I wouldn’t change my back four for the world.”

Corless admitted lowly Storrington deserved to go ahead through a Joe Howard goal on 29 minutes but three goals in four minutes just before half time put the hosts in the driving seat.

Naim Rouane stroked in a great free kick from the edge of the box and then a visiting player sliced the ball into his net before Jamie Wanstall went through one-on-one to finish neatly.

Iain Jarvie pulled one back five minutes after the break but seven minutes later Mike Williamson restored the two-goal cushion. Andy Tuckey’s free kick hit the underside of the bar, Wanstall’s follow-up header also hit the bar and finally Williamson made it third time lucky.

It was Williamson who struck again on 84 minutes but Storrington had the last word when Joe Warner scored two minutes later.

“We did alright to come back the way we did and I shouldn’t be too harsh on the players,” said Corless.

“We’re now through the 40-point barrier where you need to be to remain in the mix at this stage and I’m happier to have points in the bag rather than games.

“We had so many players unavailable over Christmas that I think the bad weather did us a favour. We now need to keep things going through to the end of the season.”

Heath: Leach; Fiest, Bygraves, Gardner, Hall (Gomez, 83); Rouane, Tuckey (Mvale, 76), Rabbetts; Peacock (Bacon, 70), Williamson, Wanstall.
