Waiting game for Blues exits

Pompey face a wait before bringing in much-needed funds through player sales.

Blues boss Michael Appleton was expecting Jason Pearce and Greg Halford to be sold yesterday.

But The News understands those deals are now unlikely to go through until the end of the week at the earliest.

Pearce, who won multiple Pompey player-of-the-season awards, has all but finalised a switch to Leeds after being watched by Elland Road scouts in recent weeks.

Meanwhile, Halford is also being tracked by a number of Championship clubs.

Both players were left out of the Blues’ squad for Saturday’s season finale at Nottingham Forest.

However, Trevor Birch still has work to do before Pearce and Halford leave Fratton Park.

Pompey’s administrator revealed last week that six members of the Blues’ squad are attracting interest, with Appleton also expecting a mass clear-out to take place next month to help keep the club alive.
