'We'll see what happens' - Colin Kazim-Richards makes admission on his future after Crawley Town lose again

Colin Kazim-Richards admitted his future as Crawley Town head coach is now up to the club’s hierarchy after a last-gasp 3-2 defeat to Shrewsbury Town at the Broadfield Stadium.

The Reds were dealt their seventh league defeat of the season on Tuesday night (October 20) after Josh Davison scored in the fourth minute of stoppage time to hand the visitors all three points.

Kazim-Richards’ side are still winless at home in League Two this campaign and sit bottom of the table, six points adrift of safety.

For the second successive home game, some Crawley fans called for the Reds boss to be sacked, chanting “time to go” and “sacked in the morning”.

And Kazim-Richards was asked after the game whether he feels he is the man to turn the club’s fortunes around.

He said: “I feel I can – if I'm given the time is another question. It's not a question I can answer for you.

“I feel I can definitely do that. I feel we need a little bit more experience, a little bit in terms of game management and things like that. But you'll all find out soon. We'll see what happens.”

And when asked if he expects to meet with the club’s owner Raphael Khalili in the aftermath of Tuesday’s defeat, he added: “I haven't got a meeting in place, but I'm sure Raf will call me today – 100%.

“So, we'll go through that, and whatever he feels then we'll have to deal with. We'll have to accept. There's a lot of other stuff, but that's for another day. It is what it is in terms of that. The football might take responsibility for that, and we'll look at what happens.

“I don't know what else to tell you, to be honest with you. I haven't had the call with Raf yet. I'm sure it's coming, because this is three points that he would have wanted, which he's right to have wanted. Sometimes you have to put things into perspective and look at context, so we'll see.”

Kazim-Richards, when asked if he would consider stepping down, said he would if he ‘felt like that’ but insisted that wasn’t the case.

The Reds boss added that the chants against him may be more difficult to hear for the players that joined the club to play under him.

He said: “I think it's tougher for them, 100%. I feel for them, for sure. It's not nice for them. For me, I've been in it a long time. If you're going to sing those, sing it no matter what the score is. I've always said that.

“If that's how you feel, that's how you feel. A result doesn't change it. So, for example, when it's 1-0, sing that. And then the songs don't happen, and then it goes 1-1 and 2-1, and then there's still 70-something minutes, and you're singing a song.

“It's football. That's fans – impulsive, fickle. Football is fickle. It's like that. You come away today with the win, could have played terribly and things are a bit different. That's the truth of it, but they've been through hard times. I think it's a continuation of that.”
