Westfield FC have adjusted well to being back in senior football as they adapt to life in the SCFL Division 1 following their Mid Sussex Premier title win last term.

Bank holiday Monday’s draw at Ringmer was a game they will feel they should have won on balance.

But they are four games unbeaten in the league and sitting pretty in eighth place.

Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Mile Oak was an example of what they can do, beating one of the fancied sides in the division.

Saturday games followed by Tuesday matches are a new thing for this side at the higher level – and it doesn’t leave a lot of time for training or planning.

But the adjustments have been made by the management to cope with the challenges.

Although they are out of the Peter Bentley Cup and FA Vase – both exits coming on penalties – there is still chance of progress in three other cup competitions alongside the league.

SCFL Premier side Newhaven visit the Knight & Davey Stadium next Tuesday (September 8) in the Sussex Senior Cup and the Westies will travel to East Preston in the RUR Cup.

Before then, this Saturday (Sept 5) brings a home game against Reigate Priory.

There is lots to play for and lots more to learn – but it’s been a good start back in senior football.
