Wickwar waiting to see '˜who ends up where' before he starts planning for next season

Hassocks joint boss Phil Wickwar has said all he and Mark Dalgleish can do is '˜sit and wait to see who ends up where' before they start to plan for next season.

Hassocks season ended with a whimper as they lost 4-1 to Wick and Barnham United on the final day of the season.

And although the management duo are pleased with the squad they have got, he is not sure what he will have at the start of the 2016/17 season.

Wickwar said: “We happy with the squad but the it’s the worst time for myself and Mark as managers because everyone is tapping up players.

“We can’t do anything but sit and wait to see who ends up where.

“We are always looking to improve and we are both working hard on player recruitment for what is a big Season coming up.

And Wickwar believes next season, the Premier Division table will follow a similar suit to this season.

He said: “The league will be split again next season, there will be the top six, us in the middle and the teams struggling.

“At the minute we can’t push top for six but want to finish higher next season.”

But he was happy with how this season panned out, apart from the final game. He said: “We had a mandate from the committee to retain SCFL Premier Division status which we said we could deliver.

“Player consistency is key for us. When we had all players fit and available we won eight on the spin, narrowly lost to Horsham and drew with Eastbourne Town away.

“In the Run of wins we beat Horsham YM and Newhaven.

“We are solid team with no stars and that’s the way we have to be.

“We have both enjoyed season both of us slightly disappointed how we finished but the lads were fantastic when we really needed them to be.

Next year sees the club celebrating 25 years at the Beacon ground next season. Wickwar said: “It’s exxciting times ahead. There’s a lot to look forward to.”
