Worthing FC and Horsham FC bosses nominated for National League South manager of the month award

Horsham FC manager Dominic Di Paola and Worthing FC boss Adam Hinshelwood have been nominated for the National League South manager of the month award for October – while a Hornets midfielder is up for the player of the month gong.

Both managers remained unbeaten in the league last month. The Hornets won three and drew two National League South games, while the Rebels won all three of their league matches.

Horsham started October with 1-1 draws at league leaders Hornchurch and Dover Athletic respectively, before recording 2-1 victories at Tonbridge Angels and Dagenham & Redbridge.

The Hornets ended the month with a hard-fought 1-0 home win over Enfield Town, which moved them into the play-off places.

A National League spokesperson said: “Started the month holding leaders and still-unbeaten Hornchurch and closed the month out with three wins on the spin to show they are more the capable of coping with the step up into the National League South despite playing four of their five games in the month away from home.”

Meanwhile, Hinshelwood began his third spell in charge of Worthing with a 4-1 home defeat to division-above Forest Green Rovers in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round.

But the Mackerel Men were imperious throughout the rest of the month, picking up 2-1 victories at Chelmsford City and Chesham United respectively before wrapping up October with a 3-1 home win over Dover.

A National League spokesperson said: “A remarkable return to Worthing for Adam Hinshelwood could not have started much worse than their sobering FA Cup exit at the hands of Forest Green Rovers.

“But three wins followed to drag themselves back towards the right end of the division.”

Meanwhile, Horsham midfielder Charlie Hester-Cook has been nominated for the National League South’s player of the month award for October.

The 25-year-old enjoyed a month to remember, recording two goals – including a matchwinner against Enfield – and an assist.

A National League spokesperson said: “We had a whole host of Horsham names we could have selected in truth but Charlie Hester-Cook stood out above them all.

“Without his goal involvements in October Horsham would be six points worse off.”
