Worthing have confirmed that women's manager Michelle Lawrence has left the club by mutual consent.

Lawrence took over the team in May 2019 and guided Worthing Women to promotion from the London & South East Regional League Division 1 South in her first season in charge.

But in a huge blow for the club, the 2019-20 season for tiers three to seven of the women’s football pyramid in England was declared void by the FA, denying Worthing promotion.

Lawrence led the women’s team to fourth spot this campaign, her side four points off the top with a game in hand, before the 2020-21 season was curtailed and declared incomplete on March 15.

Lawrence finished with an impressive league record of 17 wins and a solitary loss during her tenure.

Women’s coach Matt Wright has also stepped down from his backroom role.

A statement posted on Worthing FC Women’s Twitter page said Wright was unable to continue in his role as coach next season because of personal circumstances.

And, with the early curtailment of the 2020-21 campaign, his time at the Crucial Environmental Stadium has come to a premature end.

The club wished both well in their future endeavours.

Announcements about the new management set-up at Worthing FC Women will be announced in due course.
