Ash Cave and Charlie and Harry Horner have also joined the side which has boasted impressive numbers for new coach Matt Thermo’s pre-season sessions.

Buckland said: “I have retained the entire squad from last season as I am firm believer in continuity and topping it up by bringing in a few new faces.

“I have freshened it up a bit which is something I should have done last season, but didn’t do, to my fault.

“We have had a good pre-season which is largely because of Matt Thermo, a coach I got in for it, and the players have really enjoyed it, if ever you can enjoy pre-season. They have done just as much running, but not noticed it because the ball is out.

“I think we underachieved last year. I underachieved as well as some players, because we have got the same squad and that same continuity with some new faces, it’s only a good thing.

“I think it will be the toughest league in a long, long time I really do.”

On starting the season well and new signings, Buckland, who will be assisted against by Dean Potter as well as coaches Lydon Buckwell and Thermo, added: “If we can carry on from where we finished with this group of players, we should do well.

“We underachieved last year which was disappointing, but I knew we did not need major surgery.

“It feels like Dean Wright has come home really. He was a YM boy for a long time and then broke his leg and dropped down a division in his comeback.

“He had a fantastic season with Loxwood is Division 2 - and to be fair last year as well - and stayed on, but wanted to come back now.”
