YM’s match with St Francis washed out before half time

Fans and players alike were left frustrated at Gorings Mead on Saturday, as after thinking YM’s Division One fixture with St Francis Rangers had avoided the weekend’s wet weather, the game was then abandoned after 33 minutes.

Referee Matthew Lee deemed the pitch playable following an inspection prior to kick off, but the man in black reversed his decision just after the half hour mark, as both sides struggled in the extremely poor playing conditions.

The hosts had started brightly, Shaun Findlay forcing a smart save from Rangers’ keeper Rob Gordon with a well directed header, before striker Martin Smith fired just wide from the edge of the area.

Brad Curtis then chested down a Findlay cross and sliced a shot just the wrong side of the upright, before the referee called a halt to proceedings five minutes later with the score goalless.

The game has been re-arranged for Monday May 6, the last of YM’s seven remaining league games.
