Youth football: Pagham profit as Wood carves out openings

Little Common 0 Pagham Youth 2

This was a great Sussex County Cup win for ten-man Pagham Youth (pictured above).

Pagham dominated throughout with their imaginative football and were always on top against a Little Common side also missing key players.

It was 1-0 at half-time courtesy of Rory Wood’s well-timed run that caught out a static back four allowing him to stroke the ball past the keeper’s dive, and Common’s failure to convert a penalty.

In the second half Pagham looked for that valuable second while still keeping it tight in midfield and at the back.

They were rewarded for their patience when Luke Vincent scored after a pass from in-form Wood following a mazy left-wing dribble.

Ten-man Pagham kept going with goalkeeper Ryan Carter having little to do. Pagham travel again in the next round.

Pagham Colts 1 Chi City Youth 3

With 15 minutes gone, Chichester took the lead and only a fine save from Lewis Tribe prevented them from doubling the score.

Pagham worked their way back into it and were rewarded on the half-hour. Good work on the right from Dan Watson resulted in Ryan Barratt scoring at the far post.

Just before half time the visitors restored their lead with a header from a free-kick.

In the second half Chichester scored after 15 minutes. Pagham committed more players forward and Johan Vandriel and Watson went close.

At the other end City were twice denied by Tribe. Chichester deserved the points.

UNDER-15

Predators Youth 4 Pagham Youth 1

Predators soon took control and Birch was unlucky not to open the scoring when a great shot saw the ball deflect off one of his own players and go over the bar.

A super cross from Davies saw Irish open the scoring for Predators.

Pagham came out for the second half more determined and Predators had a game on their hands. Predators keeper Williams kept them in the game, pulling off some great saves.

A free-kick for Predators led to the Pagham keeper fumbling the ball for Josling to score.

The Predators defence of Birch, Jukes, Cook and Blackman played superbly and made it difficult for Pagham to get on the scoresheet.

Irish was lucky to score his second when his cross was caught by a gust of wind and went in.

Pagham got a goal back but Hillier found Josling to make the final score 4-1.

The lads dedicated the game to Harry Edwards, who fractured his pelvis at training and will be out of action until after Christmas. Man of the match was Cook.

Highdown Saints Colts 0 Midhurst & Easebourne 12

Midhurst dominated from the start and Jordan Warren opened the scoring in the first few minutes before Jake Burtoo added a second.

Warren scored his second with 15 minutes left of the first half. Callum Thompson, stand-in keeper, was forced to pull off a great save to kep it at 3-0.

Liam Field-Millard scored his first, followed by Burtoo’s second, then just before half time Field-Millard got his second.

Highdown continued to enjoy their football but Burtoo completed his hat-trick following a great pass from Field-Millard and Karol Papaj got on to the scoresheet.

Burtoo scored his fourth and Will Murphy netted following a quality pass from Chris Cain. Field-Millard added two more in the last five minutes.

UNDER-14

Lancing Utd Youth 1 Chichester City Youth 7

Chichester turned on the pressure and a neat through-ball was slotted in by Zac Moy, who doubled the lead by cutting in from the right to score.

Lancing levelled from the spot, despite Christy Carter getting a hand to it, but Moy wrapped up a first-half hat-trick before the break.

In the second half, Patric Turner battled for the ball on halfway and powered into the box to smash the ball in before adding a second with a similar shot from the edge of the area.

Sam Culver’s tireless running was rewarded when he met a great cross from Collins Alfred for a tap-in.

James Amos and Charlie East were rock-solid at the back along with Carter in goal.

A man-of-the-match performance by Turner saw him complete his hat-trick.

UNDER-13

Predators Youth 10 East Preston 2

Predators were soon creating chances and Alex Stanton opened the scoring following a strong run down the right. Then Connor McCabe scored from close range.

Sean Donner added a third before half-time with a shot from the edge of the box. East Preston finished the half strongly and goalkeeper Connor Fellows made some good saves.

In the second half, with man-of-the-match Angus Hamilton overlapping down the left, Predators over-ran the defence and a hat-trick for Ashley Butler followed.

There were further goals from Brandon Williams and Jordan Smith before Sean Donner completed a hat-trick.

East Preston never gave up and scored a couple of consolation goals near the end.

UNDER-NINE

Felpham Colts 6 Chi City Colts 0

Felpham started the strongest with their passing game unsettling Chichester, and it came as no surprise when the first goal arrived through Lewis Walker.

It then became the Luke Hubbard show as he twice ran through to score with well-placed shots, had a hand in Harry Geall scoring with a brilliant header and then completed his hat-trick with a deflected shot.

With a five-goal lead at half-time, Josh Mines, Daniel Kearns, Luke Dent, Sam Blunt and Rhys Nicholas came on.

Hubbard then ran half the length of the pitch and calmly sidefooted home.

Chichester never gave up and fought until the end. Man of the match was Walker.
