Youth football: Young Hornets make winning start

Horsham U18s made it two wins from their first two games with a 3-1 defeat of Eastbourne Town at home.

In the early stages the young Hornets were frustrated as a number of chances went begging, thought the deadlock was finally broken in the 35th minute when George Hole’s whipped cross was headed home at the backpost by Waller to the Hornets relief.

They then doubled their lead five minutes later when a freekick was given for a handball and Kerr steeped up confidently to arrow the free kick into the top corner leaving the keeper rooted to his spot for a 2-0 half-time lead.

After the break Kerr got his second and Horsham’s third when a cross wasn’t cleared properly and he struck the ball with the outside of his boot into the far corner.

Eastbourne pulled one back through a set piece and Horsham missed further chances to add to their tally as they settled for a 3-1 win.

Horsham Sparrows U16s beat Roffey Robins 4-2 with goals by Alfie Jones on his debut, Joel Manvel, Noah Chinn from a and Harry Close just before half time with a terrific strike.

Roffey continued to press in the second half and got a second goal. Man of the Match: Josh Robertson.

Chesworth Rovers U13s got the season off to a flying start with a 7-2 win against newly-promoted Ashington Cougars.

The hosts took the lead with a 30-yard lob in a frenetic first half that then saw three goals in seven minutes take the match to 2-2.

Chesworth then asserted with a penalty and two more before half time. Jack Frankland notched a hat-trick, with Elliott Bennett contributing a brace and one apiece from Max McAteer and Reece Turner.

Reigning champions Roffey Robins U13s got off to a good start with a 4-0 win against newly promoted Ashurstwood.

A new look Roffey side took time to settle after losing Matt Weaire pre-season who is on trial with Chelsea, Ashurstwood worked hard and with some poor finishing in front of goal kept the score to 0-0 at half-time.

Roffey continued to dominate in the second half and goals from Max Furber, Pat Gibbs, James Pearse and Luke Hedges gave Roffey the three points they deserved.

Horsham Sparrows U13 Girls crushed Southdown Rovers 6-0 in their opening game of the season.

Goals by Megan Collis, Ava Hutson (2), Ellie Hutchinson gave them a 4-0 lead.

In the second half both Ruby Edwards and Izzy Donnelly scored to see a comfortable 6-0 win for Sparrows.

Partridge Green U12s hammered Billingshurst 8-2 at home.

However, ‘Hurst showed great determination after the break.

Green stormed into an early lead with Connor Wykes taking his chance well, before further goals from Oliver Young, Luke Hill, Jack Holmwood and captain Cameron James-Gibson saw Green go in 5-0 up at the interval.

The visitors impressed in the second period and pulled it back to 5-2.

Green’s Wykes doubled his tally and Holmwood completed an impressive hat-trick.
