Youthful Broadbridge Heath go top of Division 2

Broadbridge Heath fielded nine players who had progressed from their Junior/Youth ranks and went top of the early County League Division 2 table with an emphatic 4-0 home win over Midhurst last night (Tuesday).

The game was dominated by Heath from start to finish, playing some of the best football seen played at the Leisure Centre, the only surprise was that the hosts didn’t win by a much greater margin.

The opening goal was scored after only four minutes and was a contender for goal of the season or even goal of the decade. Michael Wood whipped in a right wing cross that Tiago Andrade chested and in one movement swivelled to execute an overhead scissor kick to perfection to fire Heath ahead against the Midhurst debutant keeper.

Chances went begging as Heath’s attacks continued to flow with a second goal coming from Merv Bhujun on 34 minutes, he fired home through a crowded penalty area from one of many Heath corners.

And a third came two minutes before the break when Bhujun became provider to set up Ollie Moore with a shot from the edge of the box.

The second half continued in the same style as the first with wave after wave of Heath attacks but somehow the score remained the same until the final minutes when Jamie Liddell finally found the net after dribbling the ball around the keeper.

Heath were so dominant that the visitors only had one corner and that was in the 89th minute and cleared comfortably by the solid Heath defence.

Steve Painter’s side have made a very strong start to the new season with seven points from their opening three games, but they know greater tests lie in wait for them over the campaign.
