Frankel has 16 rivals for Sussex Stakes at Goodwood

The outstanding Frankel heads 17 entries remaining in the Group One £300,000 QIPCO Sussex Stakes, the highlight of Glorious Goodwood, on Wednesday, August 1.

Owned by Khalid Abdulla and trained by Sir Henry Cecil, Frankel is unbeaten in 11 starts and will be aiming to repeat his performance in the 2011 QIPCO Sussex Stakes, when he routed Canford Cliffs by five lengths. His most recent start came in the Group One Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot on June 19 when he won by an imperious 11 lengths.

The strongest opposition to Frankel could be provided by trainer Aidan O’Brien, who has seven remaining entries. These include Excelebration, who has finished second to Frankel on four occasions, Irish 2,000 Guineas victor Power, Maybe, who landed the Group One Moyglare Stud Stakes last season and Ishvana, who landed the Group Three Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot.
