Gold Cup is opened up to women for first time at Longines Royal International show

THE King George V Gold Cup '“ the premier award at the Longines Royal International Horse Show since it was presented in 1911 '“ will this year be open to lady riders.

It is one of two changes that will give showjumping at this year's show a new look.

The Queen Elizabeth II Cup, until now restricted to lady riders, is to become a national class, open to the top 25 male and female riders on the International Trial list.

The solid gold King George V Gold Cup, which today is worth in excess of 250,000, will be presented to the winner of the Grand Prix, with total prize money boosted from 45,000 to 60,000. It will be open this year to about 50 riders '“ all the international team riders plus the qualified British riders.
