Harper misses out in play-off

Camber Sands golfer Liam Harper suffered play-off heartache in regional qualifying for The Open Championship.

Harper, of The Homelands club in Ashford, missed out in a six-way play-off for the last three of nine qualifying places at East Sussex National on Monday.

Local final qualifying in turn feeds into The Open Championship itself which this year will be played at Royal Lytham & St Annes from July 19-22.

Several other local players also lined-up at East Sussex National. Luke Cornford, of Cooden Beach, was tied 15th after a 74 and Paul Nessling was tied 18th a shot further back.

Cooden Beach amateur Colton Alleyne-Davis was tied 25th following a 76, while Highwoods man James Doswell and Cooden Beach player Ben Nash were well down the field after shooting 81 and 84 respectively.
