Ian and Rosemary storm to Mannings cup victory

Foursomes partners Ian Applegate and Rosemary Martin showed no signs of a hangover at Mannings Heath on Saturday as they followed the traditional Friday evening club dinner with a blistering 38 points to win the Mixed Dinner Cup.

Ian and Marion Gibson took the runners-up spot with 36 and third place went to Michael and Mary Grange.

Lady captain Joy Reineck’s tea party two days earlier was preceded by a light-hearted ‘waltz’ competition on Kingfisher, where Doreen Dinnage, Rita Searles and Brenda James were the belles of the ball with 34 points, one better than Sandra Roberts, Lesley-Anne Collins-Powell and Gilly Ewers.

On Monday Owen Hydes just shaded Mike Hart to win the Roy Sendall Cup on countback.

Two of Heath’s representative teams were also in action. The over-55 squad narrowly beat Dale Hill at home 2½-1½ in the first round of the Gilbert Print Plate with last pair Steve Wild and Roger Bridge securing a vital half for victory.

Heath’s scratch team went down 3-2 at home to a strong East Sussex National outfit in the Pyecombe Pitcher, their first home league defeat for four years.
