Sparkling second for Nessling

Golf professional Paul Nessling produced a superb performance at a pro-am in Kent.

The 22-year-old from Hastings finished joint second in the The PGA Woosnam-Faldo Challenge OOM Pro-Am at Chart Hills Golf Club.

Nessling carded a terrific four-under-par round of 68 - featuring seven birdies including four in a row on the front nine - to finish three shots behind European Challenge Tour player Matthew Ford.

The assistant professional at Cooden Beach Golf Club in Bexhill also came tied seventh in the Royal Blackheath Pro-Am eight days previously and tied third in last month’s Sussex PGA Spring Meeting at Crowborough Beacon GC.

An accomplished cricketer and goalkeeper on the football field, Nessling was a junior member of Highwoods Golf Club in Bexhill, and represented Sussex at under-16 and under-18 level on numerous occasions.

He achieved a scratch handicap at the age of 17, represented William Parker Sports College in the England Schools Championship and was selected for the England Schoolboys golf team before turning professional at 18.

Nessling became assistant professional at Highwoods in 2008 and moved to Cooden Beach two years later. He achieved a top 20 finish at the English Professional Assistants Finals in 2009 and qualified for the final of the British Assistant Professionals Championship in 2010.
