Top 10 for Ben in Scottish Highlands

Golf star Ben Evans achieved his first top 10 finish of the season at the weekend.

The Staplecross-based talent came tied eighth in the Scottish Hydro Challenge on the European Challenge Tour at the extremely tough Macdonald Spey Valley GC.

His eight-under-par total of 276 - five more than victorious Frenchman Edouard Dubois - advanced him from 109th to 75th on the Challenge Tour Rankings ahead of The Princess in Sweden this coming weekend.

Evans opened up with a three-under 68 last Thursday morning containing three birdies in the first five holes followed by 10 successive pars, a solitary bogey on the 16th and birdie on the 17th.

The 24-year-old, who has been a professional since late 2007, followed that with a 67 on Friday afternoon featuring an eagle, three birdies and a bogey on the ninth - his second last having started on the 11th.

Evans advanced to nine-under courtesy of a 69 on Saturday. Playing in the penultimate group, he traded two birdies with a pair of bogeys on the front nine before stringing together two birdies and seven pars coming home.

Any outside hopes of victory he may have harboured effectively disappeared with two bogeys in the first three on Sunday, but a couple of birdies and one dropped shot thereafter gave him a 72 and winnings of 4,803.33 Euros.
