Graham and Paulprovide plenty of cold comfort inthe Hastings Half

Icy conditions failed to stop a good number of Haywards Heath Harriers running in the 29th Hastings Half Marathon and posting some impressive times.

There were 3324 finishers at the end of a course that circumnavigates the ancient town, starting on the seafront and following the route of William the Conqueror towards Battle, down to the famous Old Town and fishing village of Hastings, and then back via the Seafront.

Although the first part of the course is testing, runners continue to produce some fast times and PBs as the last two-thirds of the course is flat or downhill.

Graham Hart was first Harrier home with a brilliant 55th placing in a time of 1.25:01 (chip), followed by Paul Cousins in 87th in 1.26:26.

Cousins won the 50-54 age category contested by 212 runners.

Marion Hemsworth was second 60-64 female in 1.51:50.

There was a great return from lengthy injury for Andrew Biggs as he was 135th in 1.29:43, his first sub 1.30 finish, while amongst the top 500 were Will Herbert 1.32:32, Ben Adams 1.37:47 and Carl Bicknell 1.39:45.

First lady was Abbey Filsell with a super 1.41:49 and close behind was Mark Armitage with a solid 1.46:35.

Over in an even icier Essex, Barry Tullett ran a superb 1:31:22 to take 134th in the Brentwood Half Marathon, that drew a field of more than 2000.
