The 16-year-old, from Loxwood, retained his high jump crown as he jumped an incredable new personal best of 1.83m.

The Cranleigh Senior School pupil smashed his previous personal best of 1.75m, and 1.70m that he won the Surrey title with last February.

Scott was competing for Guildford & Godalming Athletics Club and went into the event with apprehension as it was the first competition he had jumped in since a third place at the Surrey County Combined Events in September.

He cleared 1.60m in the practice warm-up and then made each jump after that on the first attempt.

All the remaining under-17s were out by 1.65m as Scott clinched victory, but he continued in the hope of a personal best alongside the under-20s and senior men.

He cleared the 1.70m and 1.75m on the first attempts to equal his personal best, before making the 1.80m and then the six-foot mark.

In between this, Scott also competed claimed fourth in the long jump with a new personal best, having missed the bronze by 1cm. He was switching between the events taking jumps at each due to the high jump overrunning due to his success.

The new high jump record sees the young athlete move up to 1th in the UK rankings list in the men’s under-17 category.

Mother Chrissy said: “Rafe was back to the high jump at 1.86m, but unfortunately did not clear this height on his three attempts but understandably was tired by then and running on adrenalin.

“However, by jumping an amazing 1.83m, he did himself very proud on the day and was the last man standing on the high jump.”
