Harrier Russ finishes 17th in Brighton Half Marathon

Nineteen Haywards Heath Harriers joined the almost 7,000 runners in the Sussex Beacon Brighton Half Marathon which provided perfect running conditions on Sunday morning.

Clear blue skies greeted the athletes, fortunately only a light breeze and pleasant temperatures which gave way to a warm spring like day most unlike the dreadful training conditions in recent weeks.

The runners where also delighted to find the streets and seafront lined by cheering spectators in support of this huge event in the runners diary.

Russ Mullen was back in business with a truly fantastic 17th place with sublime chip time 1.15:11and new PB. Josh Pewter completed in 1.19:12 a massive 4 mins off his PB. A great finish of 1.20 :29 despite being slighlty out of sorts for Tom Mullen, Andy Guy was 123rd and an excellent 1.23:07 for PB , Mark Davies also well within the first 200 and a decent time of 1.25:11. Steve Dallman was 199th and a pleasing 1.25:45.1.26:26 and new PB for Will Herbert, Jason Russell 1.27:26 for a fine new PB, Jack Chivers with a good 1.30:21. Getting close to a sub 1.30 for Ben Adams and 1.31:29, TV star Carl Bicknell finished on 1.33:47, David Roper 1.34.51-a mere one second away from PB . 1.35:16 for Graham Jenner and 1.49:08 for Robert Clare.

For the ladies, Natalie Chivers and her growing bump continued to run well completing in 2.10:45-doing Paula Radcliffe proud! First home was Alison Shore with an excellent 1.42:38, Kat Barrett a positive 1.44:54, a brilliant new PB and sub 2 hours run for a delighted Joanne McDonald and 1.58:55. Klara Boarder finished in 2.00:33 for the 13.1 miles.
