Hastings crash out of FA Cup

HASTINGS United crashed out of the FA Cup after losing 3-1 at home to Ryman League Bracknell Town.

Hastings had made a promising start to the preliminary round tie on Saturday and took the lead on 18 minutes when Ricky Spiller crossed low to the near post where Chris Honey turned and shot in an instant, drilling his finish into the bottom corner of the net.

Soon after only a goal-line clearance prevented Mark Lovell from doubling the advantage and at this stage Hastings looked on course for the next round.

But the complexion of the match changed just before half time when Bracknell exchanged passes outside the opposition box and Jon Palmer equalised with a crisp drive beyond keeper Matt Brown.

The visitors looked the more threatening early in the second half before taking the lead for the first time on 72 minutes through a Gavin Smith penalty awarded for a trip by Carl Rook.

Lovell went close to levelling the scores before substitute Adam Crittenden took advantage of a defensive slip to lob the killer third in added time.
