Hayling Island pair heading for RHY championships

UP-and-coming Chichester sailor Ed Fitzgerald will be caught up in the middle of some serious sibling rivalry when he and sailing partner James Peters do battle for the 29er title at the prestigious 2008 RYA Youth National Championships and Trials later this month.

James and sister Frances, from Hayling Island, are no strangers to competing against one and other and have traded blows consistently in the getting-the-upper-hand stakes over the past few years.

Frances (17) goes to this year's Championships as the defending 29er champion, having clinched the 2007 crown with then partner Hannah Diamond on her home waters of Hayling Island Sailing Club; James finishing 10th with former crew Ollie Spensley-Corfield.

But it is James (15) who has enjoyed the most success recently sailing with Fitzgerald, also aged 15, the pair claiming seventh overall at the 29er World Championships in Australia in January - making them the third ranked Great Britain team '“ to Frances and now crew Claire Lasko's 16th overall.
