H&B produced an excellent team performance to record a convincing 33-5 win against their Hampshire One visitors Petersfield on Saturday.

The game kicked-off late because of delays caused by heavy traffic. The wind and rain made it a very unpleasant experience for all concerned, but H&B soon took control.

Tim Sills fielded a defensive clearance and left three defenders trailing in his wake to score a good try, which Harry Foster converted.

Rob McManus came off the bench and was immediately involved in a forwards’ move which put winger Ben Campbell away for another try. Foster again converted to make it 14-0 after only 16 minutes.

Petersfield found their feet and put the H&B defence under a great deal of pressure, but were unable to put points on the board.

Sills made an excellent break and set Foster up to score under the posts. The conversion was no problem for the full-back, who certainly had his kicking boots on.

Half time came with H&B up 21-0 and immediately after the break Petersfield went down to 14 men; one of their forwards sustained a hand injury and they had travelled without any replacements.

In the 45th minute Sills made another fantastic break out on the left wing to score an impressive try. Petersfield eventually breached the H&B defence and their number eight scored an unconverted try.

As the conditions worsened, Chaz Ackerley made a good run and from the ruck that he set up, replacement Alex Waring scored a try which Foster converted with a well-struck kick.
