Hectic weekend ahead for Chichester athletes

Chichester Runners face a busy time this weekend as all age groups will be in action at some point over the two days.

The combined under-13 and under-15 team will travel to Aldershot on Saturday for the second match in the National Youth Development League.

After a stirring performance at the beginning of May when Chichester were just pipped out of the top two by Aldershot, they know competition will be all the fiercer this time with their rivals likely to be stronger on their home track.

With in-form Alyssa White, Rachel Laurie and Ben Collins leading the way, Chichester are sure to give a good account of themselves among the eight teams in the match.

On Sunday, the seniors to do battle in the Southern Athletics League at the Mountbatten Centre, Portsmouth. There are doubts over the fitness and availability of multi-eventers Charlie Roe and Phil Kearney, who both played a vital part in the first match at Twickenham in April.

There will be a mixture of age ranges in the squad with seniors being joined by talented under-17s including Sophie-Anne Haigh and Brandon Bell.

The middle-distance squad is hoping to see a return of Rose Ellis after injury and perennial team member James Baker will have over-50 Jim Garland for company, still competitive in the senior ranks.
