Hills prospers at Lancing Open 0 but Gatford falls just short

The Lancing Open attracted a very large and strong field of players which pleased the organisers.

After a good day of competitive darts, the men’s semi-finals saw Bognor’s Mick Rodgers beating PDC star Tony Ayres 4-2 and Midhurst’s Jason Hills beating Lee Williams 4-3.

In a very close and tense final it was 4-4 before Hills took the final leg with the help of a 180.

The ladies singles did not attract as many entries as were hoped for but with nearly every entrant being a county player, what it lacked in numbers it more than made up for in quality.

Bognor’s Hayley Gatford made her way to the final before going down 3-0 to her Devon opponent.

Bognor Star Darts

The men’s Star Darts league returned to action after a two-week tournament break. All the top teams started with wins.

Results: Wheatsheaf 10 Railway 4; Eastgate 13 Newtown SC 1; Claremont A 7 Claremont B 7.

In the report of the Men’s Star Darts pairs competition last week, we named the wrong runners-up because of information sent to our darts correspondent. The actual runners-up were Chris Gatford and Joe Clear from Hunston Club.

The ladies’ Star Darts league continued with the second competition of the season – the ladies’ pairs.

A strong turnout at the Newtown saw K Bennett and M Janman win 3-1 against N Tapner and K Wilson.

Bognor Friday Night League

The performance of the night came from Rob Collins, scoring 11 tons in his three legs finished with an impressive 27.83 average.
