The versatile defender ‘felt it go’ close the end of the 90 minutes at Gorings Mead and though he is yet to have it checked by physio Andi Marfleet, the player expects to be missing for three to four weeks.

“I’m really disappointed because I’m really enjoying my football but there’s nothing I can do,” said Charman, who will definitely miss the two local derbies against Worhting on Saturday and away at Three Bridges on Monday.

The Hornets captain was pleased with the side’s performance in earning a hard-fought point at home to the Tanners. Twice the hosts were pegged back as goals from Jamie Cade and then Charman himself were cancelled out by Allan Tait and a wonderful free kick from sub Jake Hobbs.

But the visitors had the better share of the chances and came close to winning it late on when Tait’s effort bounced just past the post.

“It’s obviously always nice to score but I’m pleased with the point because I felt we deserved a point today,” Charman said.

“I thought we deserved a point on Saturday and we didn’t get it, but the players are a lot happier today.

“They’re (Leatherhead) a very good side, they’ll be up in the top five or six there’s no doubt about it. They’re a little bit more direct then I thought they would be, with the amount of good players they’ve got. But the two they’ve got upfront are a real handful so I can understand that.

And he added: “I think 2-2 was a fair result and both teams will be happy with it.”

Horsham have taken seven points from their opening four Ryman South games.
