'I don't care if we win 6-5 as long as we win' - Brighton star looks ahead to Newcastle game

The Irishman spoke after a late Christian Eriksen thunderbolt denied Brighton a vital point against Tottenham Hotspur in their fight against relegation from the Premier League on Tuesday.

Albion sit three points ahead of third-from-bottom Cardiff with three games left each. Brighton entertain Newcastle before games with Arsenal and Manchester City, while the Bluebirds are at Fulham on Saturday and then face Crystal Palace and Manchester United.

The Seagulls have failed to score in seven successive matches and asked about the importance of a clean sheet against Newcastle, Duffy said: "I don't care if we win 6-5 as long as we win. Three points is the most important thing and a clean sheet helps you get the win.

"But I don't care if we concede five if we score six.

"It doesn't have to be pretty but a result is the most important thing.

“We'll probably do the exact same thing as we have done these last two weeks. Our identity is back and that's so important.”

Duffy does not believe Albion's tough run-in should affect their gameplan. He said: “I don't think we've ever lost the belief. We've always had a strong dressing room and most of us have been together a long time.

“It's part and parcel that you go through tough periods both individually and as a team but we've got to take it and respond to it. Hopefully the fans feel we have responded a bit, even though we've not won, but you can see the desire and no one can question that.”

Duffy is confident that Albion can beat the drop and said: “We've got to believe haven't we. I think the squad is good enough, which is easy to say, but we've got to show it. The table never lies so we've got to earn the right to be in this league.

“Its not nice but it's down to us now. It's been a long time since we scored a goal and it's not from a lack of trying but its just not dropping for us at the minute. The fans have been brilliant all season so we just have to repay them on Saturday, which we know is our biggest game.”
