The St Leonards potter will line-up in the Australian Goldfields Open buoyed by reaching the semi-finals of the same tournament last year during a golden three-week period in which he also reached the last four of the Wuxi Classic and won the Six Reds World Championship.

Davis, the world number 16, will begin his campaign in the early hours of tomorrow (Wednesday) against Paul Davison, the 73rd-ranked Yorkshireman playing in the last 32 of a ranking event for only the second time.

Davis got some match practice under his belt by taking part in the Pink Ribbon charity tournament at the South West Snooker Academy in Gloucester the weekend before last.

The 40-year-old began with a 4-0 win over Anthony Davies which included a break of 68 and then saw off world number 10 Ricky Walden 4-2. His progress was halted, however, by a 4-1 loss to 85th-ranked Daniel Wells in the last 16 despite winning the opening frame with a run of 96.
