Jack savours London 2012 adventure

The 22-year-old from Catsfield was part of the Great Britain team which bowed out of the men’s water polo competition at London 2012 this week.

Waller wrote on Twitter: “We gave are all in every game and it was great fun! It was a real pleasure playing with this bunch of boys and I have loved every minute! Thanks for all the support in all the games everyone!”

Competing in water polo at Olympic level for the first time since 1956, Team GB were always going be up against, particularly as they were joined by the top four nations from the 2008 Games in the proverbial ‘group of death’.

Perhaps unsurprisingly therefore, Britain lost all five of their Group B matches to miss out on a quarter-final place, but the players took away some cherished memories which will stay with them forever.

Team GB lost 13-4 to Romania in their opening match with Waller scoring the final goal of the night and then went down 21-7 against European champions Serbia.

Britain continued their campaign with a 13-7 reverse at the hands of the United States last Thursday and their elimination was confirmed by a 17-6 loss to Hungary, who have won the last three Olympic titles, on Saturday.
