Robertson, ranked 50, pushed Judd Trump all the way before being edged out 6-5 in an exciting first round clash at the International Championship in China.

Things didn’t look good for Robertson as Trump took the opening two frames with breaks of 82 and 40, but the underdog hit back with a 65 in the next before winning frame four on the colours to make it 2-2 at the interval.

A run of 58 in frame five then gave Robertson a 3-2 lead only for Trump to win two tight frames to move 4-3 in front before clinching the eighth in one visit with a 69 for 5-3.

Robertson refused to lie down, though, as breaks of 61 and 40 gave him frame nine before a 58 at the start of the 10th helped make it 5-5. Trump won the decider, however, 69-27 thanks largely to a break of 67.

St Leonards-based world number 17 Mark Davis will take on Sam Baird in his second round match tomorrow. Davis was a 6-2 winner in his first round tie against Dechawat Poomjaeng yesterday.
