Jimmy threatens upset against Higgins

The Bexhill cueman was ahead twice before going down 4-2 against John Higgins at the Wyldecrest Parks Players Championship Grand Final yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon.

Robertson got off to a good start at the Guild Hall in Preston by winning the opening frame 79-0 thanks largely to a break of 52. A run of 50 helped world number 10 Higgins clinch the second frame 71-13, but 54th-ranked Robertson took a 2-1 lead courtesy of a magnificent 130 break in frame three.

Higgins restored parity again by rattling through frame four 73-0 helped by a 56 and began the next with a run of 57 en route to a 61-point cushion. Robertson clawed his way back into it, but Higgins drew a foul on the pink and then potted it to clinch the frame 73-50 and move 3-2 in front.

Frame six was also tight. Robertson seized the initiative with a break of 49 only for Scottish potter Higgins to come back and edge his way over the line 62-50 to seal victory.

The Wyldecrest Parks Players Championship Grand Final brought together the leading 24 players from the European Tour order of merit and the top eight from the Asian Tour. St Leonards-based Mark Davis is due to be in action against Joe Perry this evening.
