Johnson salutes his bowlers as Horsham make perfect start

Horsham made pretty much the perfect start to the season with both bat and ball as they demolished Brighton & Hove by eight wickets.

Captain James Johnson was full of praise for his bowlers as they had the visitors all back in the pavilion for 135 runs after they had won the toss.

In reply, Horsham knocked off the total with 138 for the loss of two wickets in 24.2 overs.

Jofra Archer (1-27) opened the Horsham attack with David Croshaw (0-27), before spells from Joe Ludlow (1-30) and Will Beer (2-31) helped dismiss Brighton’s openers who had made a good start at 60-0.

But with Phil Salt (27) and Henry Hunt (36) gone, only Chris Grammer (21) put up any resistance against ‘magic’ Michael Munday, who claimed 6-10 from 9.1 overs.

Johnson said: “It was a good wicket to be fair, pretty flat and a bit in it for both the batters and bowlers depending on how you applied yourself.

“I was very impressed with Jofra up top, it was the first time I have seen him bowl and he did very well. I am sure he is going to get lots of wickets for us.

“We were actually under the cosh for the first eight overs and they were at 60-0 and going along quite well.

“After the first couple of wickets, we really tightened up and our own magic man Michael Munday came into play and did the rest.

“I thought Will Beer did really well and it was probably the best I have seen him bowl for Horsham in a while. After the first couple of wickets, we were always looking to keep them to a nice score.”

With the bat, Joe Ludlow (13), Craig Gallagher (76*) and Beer (36) saw them home.

Johnson said: “Craig batted really well up top, but unfortunately ran out Joe, who was looking unbeatable. Beero then came in and finished if off as we made quite light work of it.”
