Jubilant Jamie crowned southern champ

The Fighting Tigers Gym’s newest champion was crowned at the Casino Rooms in Rochester.

Jamie McGuigan is the IKF light middleweight K1 British Southern Area Champion after defeating the highly experienced Scott Baker, from the world renowned Semtex Gym.

Fighting Tigers head instructor Phil Eaton gave McGuigan a harsh talking to at the end of the second round and round three couldn’t have gone any better for the 24-year-old.

Baker got to his feet to the excitement of the packed crowd after being hit with a huge shot, but the round ended with McGuigan on top and the fight was surely his.

Baker would need a knockout to win and McGuigan wasn’t going to let that happen. Round four again saw both fighters going at it, but McGuigan’s fitness shone through and he knocked Baker down once more.

Nothing Baker threw at McGuigan in the fifth and final round fazed the young Fighting Tiger, and then came the moment of glory as McGuigan landed a huge shot clean to Baker’s jaw and his legs crumbled. Baker hit the canvas and the fight was over, a clean knockout by McGuigan.
