JUNIORS UP FOR THE CUP

SUSSEX juniors played for the Winder Cup at Peacehaven with under-14s, under-16s and under-18s taking part in a triangular match off handicap-half combined for the foursomes and full difference for the singles.

The foursomes was close after the morning, with both the under- 14s and under-18s on 13 points and the under-16s on 10 points.

Chris Jess had come in at the last minute to captain the side and holed a 25ft putt on the last to half both the top matches in a close contest

Adam Brown and Ali Dalgliesh gained maximum points, as did Dan Haddock and David Wickes, Max Farrant and Rob Griffin, Dan Hoare and Kyle Gaster.

There were county debuts for Jack Martin, Chris Coucher, Matt Goodley, Harvey Weddell and Ben Henning.

The afternoon really belonged to the under-18 team, who were eventual winners, with the under 16s just pipping the under-14s to second place.

Brown was hit by a golf ball in the ankle and could not continue, so local member Daisy Wakelin was drafted in. She was made to play off the white tees but still managed maximum points, and didn't even mind being called Derek all day.
