King targets £3,000 Trophy bounty

IT'S knockout weekend again as Lewes Football Club travel to Oxfordshire to take on Banbury United in the third qualifying round of the FA Trophy.

Rooks's manager Steve King has a full squad to select from tomorrow (Saturday) apart from the suspended Junior Kadi as Lewes chase the 3,000 prize for the winners.

King watched Banbury draw 3-3 with King's Lynn in a Southern League Premier fixture earlier this month and rated them 'alright'.

He said: 'They get the ball out wide left and bang it in to their big striker Howard Foriton.'

The 31-year-old has a reasonable pedigree having played for Oxford United, Oxford City, Yeovil, Birmingham, Peterborough, Stevenage and Farnborough.

The Banbury manager is Kevin Brock, who played over 500 Football League games at clubs including Oxford United, QPR and Newcastle.

United, who are currently eighth in their league, are well supported '“ their home league gates average just over 400 '“ but the fans have not had a lot to shout about this season.

They have won just once in seven home league games and yet are unbeaten on the road with four wins and two draws.

In the Trophy they have beaten Taunton Town 5-1 in a replay and won 2-0 at Marlow to reach this stage.

King admits the last thing he wants is a replay with a busy spell of five games in 14 days scheduled including the Sussex Senior Cup tie on Tuesday, December 5, at the winners of tomorrow's Rye United v Selsey second-round tie.
